National and State Recognition
Introduction
Students come to Lyceum to study languages for a variety of reasons, many are pursuing a leisure interest, and others are motivated by family connections or are looking to be able to communicate better within internationally linked organisations. Some need official recognition of their foreign language skills for work or study purposes.
Lyceum Education Centre is nationally recognised to award the following certificates in Applied Language:
- 39042QLD Certificate 2 in Applied Language
- 39043QLD Certificate 3 in Applied Language
- 39044QLD Certificate 4 in Applied Language
You can use these certificates to gain credit towards your TAFE or University courses if they have a language requirement. Many students at Lyceum will find these certificates relevant for recognition at work or to enhance job and promotion prospects.
National and State recognition of the courses we teach is organised through government bodies including the Office of Training and Tertiary Education, the Australian Qualifications Framework Advisory Board, and the Victorian Registration & Qualifications Authority. Lyceum is an active member of the Australian Council for Private Education and Training (ACPET). ACPET is the national industry association for independent providers of post-compulsory education and training, for Australian and international students. Membership of this professional body ensures quality.
These bodies have various roles to play in standardising curriculum content and measuring learning outcomes, ensuring training organizations meet their obligations and that students who are awarded certificates can be confident that those certificates will be recognised by employers and academic institutions nation wide.

Certificate Courses and Assessment
There is no special course that you need to enrol for in order to gain your certificate, all courses taught at Lyceum satisfy the content requirement of these certificates even though you may not be seeking certification for your study time. However you must undergo formal assessment in order to be awarded your certificate. The assessment contains both oral and written components and can be taken on one of two designated assessment days each year. The dates for this year will be advised in terms two and four of this year, after students have applied. Exams are generally held on a Saturday at the end of these terms.
- 39042QLD Certificate 2 in Applied Language correlates to the successful completion of Level 4 at Lyceum.
- 39043QLD Certificate 3 in Applied Language correlates to the successful completion of Lower Intermediate 2 at Lyceum.
- 39044QLD Certificate 4 in Applied Language correlates to the successful completion of Upper Intermediate 2 at Lyceum.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Many students have already acquired some level of competence in the language they are studying prior to enrolling at Lyceum. These students are assessed informally prior to allocation of classes to ensure they are placed in an appropriate level for their ability. It is important to note that these lateral entry students do not have to do all of their study at Lyceum before seeking certification, anyone who can demonstrate the appropriate competencies in the assessment will qualify for their certificate.
